BEGA TO EDEN Friday 1st October 2010

This is the Bega Cheese Factory. We stopped for a quick visit and bought some Camenbert to have with our Vino!
At Eden on the far south coast of NSW we visited the Killer Whale Museum. Outside there is a replica of the light house which used to stand at the cape. Eden coastline has one of the highest number of ship wrecks around.
This is the skeleton of "Old Tom" a killer whale who used to shepherd the whales into the harbour for the whalers to harpoon. The killer whales returned every season and this particular killer whale swam around and around a sailor who had fallen overboard and drowned until his body could be retrieved. He protected it from shark attack.
We free camped on the wharf at Quarantine Bay. We were there all alone until a camper arrived and a couple who stayed on their boat on the trailer still attached to the car!  When we awoke at 5am the wharf was full of boat trailers and cars. We hadn't heard a thing!

Sunset and sunrise were amazing, the sky was pink and then gold and the lake was as still as a mill pond. The mirror images were great.

Awesome place well worth a visit and a great free camp site.
